The municipality of Zapallar has confirmed that the Naval Glories parade will proceed as planned, reversing an earlier decision to suspend the event. The announcement follows a working meeting between Mayor Gustavo Alessandri, the Valparaíso Maritime Governor's Office, and the Chilean Navy.
The decision to move forward with the commemoration was reached through a process of dialogue and coordination between the involved institutions. According to Mayor Alessandri, the change in stance aims to protect the general interests of the community.
The Mayor detailed that the administration is seeking a balance between the needs of the population and local traditions. “This is a decision aimed at balancing the social concerns that prompted the initial review with the importance of this commemoration as a space for national unity,” Alessandri stated.
Alongside the confirmation of the event, the municipality announced that, in conjunction with the municipal council, it will evaluate budget reductions across various administrative areas. This measure is intended to strengthen the delivery of direct aid to local residents.
The reallocation of funds comes in response to the current rising cost of living. The municipal administration emphasized that their priority remains supporting the most vulnerable families in the area.
Alessandri emphasized that the decision to maintain the parade reflects a commitment to moving forward responsibly. “This decision reflects a commitment to progress with responsibility, keeping people at the center without abandoning the value of the traditions that bring us together,” the Mayor added.
Finally, the municipality indicated that institutional coordination with maritime authorities will continue across other areas of local management, ensuring ongoing collaboration between the municipality and the Navy.
