The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) has placed a five-year seal on details regarding anomalies detected at the Mexican Embassy in the United Kingdom during the tenure of former Ambassador Josefa González-Blanco Ortiz-Mena. This decision was confirmed following a freedom of information request, which revealed that observations made by the Internal Control Body (OIC) were not fully addressed by the diplomatic mission.
The audit process, identified as 2025-02-OIC-5-100-AFC-007, was conducted between June 17 and August 29, 2025. As a result, the OIC began drafting a 'Report of Detected Irregularities,' a document currently being compiled to proceed in accordance with the General Law of Administrative Responsibilities.
The Foreign Ministry justified withholding the information by arguing that disclosing the findings at this procedural stage would harm the public interest. According to the official response cited by El Universal, the agency maintains that releasing the data could compromise the effectiveness of ongoing proceedings, potentially lead to the obstruction of investigations, allow for the tampering or destruction of evidence, and improperly interfere with the work of the investigating authority.
González-Blanco Ortiz-Mena’s time in London was marked by various public complaints that preceded the audit. Among the most frequent allegations were claims of workplace harassment and the suspected mismanagement of public funds within the diplomatic mission.
Furthermore, El Universal columnist Claudio Ochoa Huerta exposed a case last April dubbed 'The VIP Guests of the London Embassy.' The report revealed that Marcelo Patrick Ebrard Ramos, son of current Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, resided at the diplomatic property between 2021 and 2022, a period that coincided with the administration of then-Ambassador González-Blanco Ortiz-Mena.
The classification of this information currently prevents public scrutiny regarding the use of resources allocated to the embassy between 2022 and 2026. The SRE maintains that the seal will remain in effect until the report is finalized and the corresponding administrative procedures are substantiated, thereby ensuring that the integrity of the process is not compromised by external interference.
