The Valparaíso Regional Prosecutor’s Office has launched a criminal investigation into National Renewal Senator Camila Flores for the alleged crime of fraud against the state. The Public Prosecutor’s Office is examining evidence that was reportedly brought to light through an anonymous complaint filed with the agency.

The senator responded to the opening of the proceedings via a public statement. Flores asserted that she will face the investigation with absolute calm and denied any wrongdoing in the performance of her duties.

“I am a brave woman, and I will not be intimidated by attempts to damage my reputation. I face this situation with the peace of mind of someone who has nothing to hide, and with the conviction that the truth always finds a way,” the senator stated in her release.

Details under seal

The legislator clarified that, as of now, she is unaware of the specific content of the charges or the evidence supporting the complaint. She explained that this lack of information is due to the fact that the judicial process is currently under seal.

“I do not yet know the details of the complaint or its origin, especially given its confidential nature,” Flores noted. However, the senator emphasized that, based on the information she has been able to gather, the case appears to have originated from an anonymous tip.

Flores also hinted that the legal attack might have motivations unrelated to her public duties. The senator maintained that “unfortunately, these types of situations often have origins outside of the public sphere, a matter that will need to be clarified.”

The case remains in the hands of the Valparaíso Regional Prosecutor’s Office. The agency has several investigative steps underway to determine if there is evidence to substantiate the commission of crimes against state assets.
