President Claudia Sheinbaum recorded a 69% public approval rating in May, maintaining stable popular support, according to the latest poll conducted by El Financiero. The statistical data indicates that the disapproval rating for her administration stands at 31%.
Despite the president’s solid overall numbers, the government’s performance on public security is facing a negative trend. According to the report, unfavorable perceptions in this area surged, rising from 56% to 66% between April and May. In contrast, positive assessments of security fell from 32% to 25%, marking the lowest point of her administration to date.
In other sectors of public administration, changes were minimal or non-existent. Regarding the economy, favorable opinion remained stagnant at 48%, while disapproval rose three percentage points to reach 42%. Regarding the fight against corruption, public support held steady at 30%, with 61% of respondents expressing unfavorable views.

The El Financiero study also highlights a gradual improvement in perceptions regarding the bilateral relationship with the United States. Positive opinion on the connection between President Sheinbaum and U.S. President Donald Trump reached 40% in May, a figure that has grown steadily since the 24% recorded last January.
Additionally, 45% of those surveyed rated the general relationship between Mexico and the United States as good or very good, an increase of two points compared to April. Regarding USMCA negotiations, 57% of those consulted evaluated them positively, while 35% described them as bad or very bad.
Finally, the survey addressed the government's stance on fracking for natural gas extraction. The issue reveals a divided society: 47% of respondents expressed support for the practice, while 49% declared themselves against it. This comes amid a public perception that the Sheinbaum administration is showing greater openness toward the technique, in contrast to the position held by former President López Obrador.
The national survey was conducted via telephone among 800 adult citizens between May 8 and May 25, 2026, with a margin of error of +/-3.5% and a 95% confidence level.
