Renovación Nacional (RN) president Andrea Balladares urged the Valparaíso Public Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday to expedite its investigation into Senator Camila Flores. The probe concerns alleged repeated fraud against the state, stemming from an anonymous complaint filed in October 2025.

According to a report by T13, the investigation focuses on the eight-year period Flores served in the Chamber of Deputies. Evidence reportedly includes WhatsApp messages suggesting a scheme to misappropriate public funds through the irregular hiring of staff using parliamentary allowances.

Balladares confirmed she spoke with the senator on Monday regarding the allegations. "We spoke with Senator Flores yesterday, who is willing to cooperate with the investigation, and I think that is the first thing," Balladares told Diario de Cooperativa. "On issues of public resources, we have to be as transparent as possible."

Potential party sanctions

The RN leader emphasized the importance of a quick resolution to maintain public trust. She warned that prolonged legal processes without clarity cause significant damage to institutional credibility.

"We hope that justice acts very quickly in this, because many times when cases are delayed and these facts are not clarified, it does tremendous damage to democracy," she said. Balladares noted that information remains limited due to the confidential nature of the ongoing inquiry.

Regarding internal party measures, Balladares outlined clear protocols for members facing legal scrutiny. While she stressed the importance of the presumption of innocence during the current investigative phase, she confirmed that formal charges trigger immediate action.

"Whenever one of our militants has been formally charged by the justice system, their rights as a member have been suspended," Balladares explained. "When there are investigations, we obviously have to wait for the results."

Balladares stated that the party intends to monitor the situation closely as the Valparaíso Regional Prosecutor’s Office continues its work. She reiterated her expectation that Flores will remain fully available to answer all questions posed by investigators to bring the truth to light.
