Galvarino Apablaza will not surrender to Argentine authorities following a new arrest warrant issued against him. His attorney, Rodolfo Yanzón, confirmed the decision on Thursday, arguing that the current extradition process is legally flawed.
Yanzón contends that the judicial order ignores the protection granted to Apablaza under his status as a political refugee. The defense team plans to bring the case before the United Nations, citing an alleged violation of international protocols regarding asylum seekers.
Dispute over transport regulations
Separately, former Minister of Transport Pedro Pablo Errázuriz responded to public statements made by current Minister Juan Carlos Muñoz regarding the implementation of the so-called ‘Uber Law.’ The dispute centers on the technical regulations governing ride-sharing platforms in Chile.
In a letter to the editor, Errázuriz refuted three specific points raised by Muñoz concerning the delays in publishing the new regulatory framework. He rejected claims that his administration left behind "bindings" or restrictive clauses that hinder the current ministry’s ability to modernize the rules.
The former minister emphasized that the legislative intent was to create a balanced playing field for all transport stakeholders. He challenged the ministry to clarify the specific technical hurdles currently preventing the law from taking full effect.
