Russian military forces conducted an airstrike on the Pechenihy dam in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region on April 14, deploying six guided aerial bombs against the facility. The dam, located in the Chuhuiv district, serves as a primary reservoir and a vital component of the region’s water infrastructure.

Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, confirmed the attack during a national television broadcast. He identified the site as one of the largest reservoirs in the region and a facility of critical importance to the city of Kharkiv.

The strikes on the dam occurred in coordination with a broader aerial assault. Russian forces simultaneously targeted Kharkiv using Molniya-type unmanned aerial vehicles and Shahed suicide drones.

Syniehubov stated that Russian forces "continue to strike our settlements and civilian infrastructure." He noted that the administration is withholding specific details regarding structural damage or immediate risks to prevent the disclosure of operational intelligence to the enemy.

Emergency services, including police units, medical teams, and the State Emergency Service, were dispatched to the site immediately following the impact. Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage.

The Pechenihy reservoir is a strategically significant target, as it facilitates the water supply for a large portion of the regional population. Ukrainian officials have long expressed concern over the vulnerability of such installations.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently cited intelligence reports suggesting that Russia is actively planning operations to sabotage Ukraine’s essential systems, including water networks. The President has urged local leaders to prioritize the defense of these assets.

"In every community, there must be a serious and absolutely responsible approach to protecting relevant facilities," Zelenskyy said. The administration continues to monitor the situation as crews work to stabilize the area around the dam.
