Ricardo Monreal, the Morena leader in the Chamber of Deputies, has asserted that any United States intervention in Mexico to combat drug trafficking is an impossible and inadmissible scenario. The lawmaker based his stance on the country's history and its sense of nationalism.

According to elfinanciero.com.mx, Monreal downplayed warnings from the U.S. government regarding intervention on Mexican soil if drug cartels are not fought more effectively. The deputy characterized these statements as part of Donald Trump's 'campaign rhetoric' ahead of the November elections.

'He has elections in November; 435 representatives and one-third of the Senate are up for election. For that reason, I believe this is campaign rhetoric aimed at maintaining his electoral base,' Monreal explained during an interview at the Legislative Palace.

While he dismissed the threat, the lawmaker suggested the message should not be ignored. He recommended keeping communication channels open and avoiding direct confrontation, noting that President Claudia Sheinbaum has acted with 'great restraint and prudence.'

Response to allegations of criminal ties

Regarding warnings from U.S. prosecutors about new allegations against Mexican politicians linked to organized crime, Monreal demanded concrete evidence. The deputy stated that the Attorney General's Office must conduct the necessary investigations to determine responsibility.

'When they have evidence, let them present it; in the meantime, they can say and do whatever they deem appropriate,' the parliamentary leader declared regarding the possibility of new accusations from U.S. authorities.

Monreal also denounced that the Sheinbaum administration is facing a 'media onslaught' and a 'brutal campaign.' In response to this situation, he announced that Morena's federal lawmakers will tour towns and neighborhoods across the country to inform the public in defense of the nation.

The lawmaker emphasized the importance of 'closing ranks' with the President to ensure she does not stand alone against external pressures. He assured that the coalition will support Sheinbaum's position, whom he believes has defended national sovereignty and the homeland with dignity and firmness.
