France and the United Kingdom will co-host a video conference this Friday to coordinate a maritime security mission in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement from the French president's office.
French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will co-chair the meeting. The session aims to gather nations willing to contribute to what officials described as a "purely defensive mission" to secure the vital waterway.
According to reports from France 24, the primary objective of the talks is to establish a plan to "restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz when security conditions allow it."
Maritime security mission
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most critical transit points for global energy supplies. The proposed mission focuses on defensive operations to protect commercial shipping from potential disruptions.
Officials indicated that the meeting will focus on identifying participating countries capable of providing support for the mission. The initiative seeks to stabilize the region's shipping lanes through international cooperation.
France 24 reported that the discussions will proceed once the security environment in the region is deemed appropriate for such a deployment.
