The National Water Commission (Conagua) has reported that most of Mexico will experience temperatures between 40°C and 45°C (104°F to 113°F) this week. Extreme heat is expected to be even more intense in states including Durango, Sinaloa, Michoacán, Guerrero, and Oaxaca.
Cold Front 47 will move across the northern part of the country, interacting with a dry line in the northeast and a subtropical jet stream. This interaction will trigger showers and isolated rainfall across Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas.
According to the General Meteorological Forecast for Monday, April 27, Cold Front 47 will bring winds of 40 to 50 km/h, with gusts reaching between 60 and 80 km/h. Dust storms are also anticipated in Baja California, Sonora, and Chihuahua.
In Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, thunderstorms with potential hail are forecast. The agency also warned of the likely formation of whirlwinds in northern and northeastern Coahuila.
Throughout Monday, temperatures are expected to rise while the probability of rain decreases across 26 states. The report details intervals of showers in states such as San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Hidalgo, the State of Mexico, Mexico City, Tlaxcala, Chiapas, and Guerrero.
Meanwhile, isolated rainfall is predicted for Baja California, Chihuahua, Durango, Zacatecas, Puebla, Morelos, Michoacán, and Oaxaca. Maximum temperatures exceeding 45°C will also affect Tamaulipas and San Luis Potosí.
Temperatures ranging from 40 to 45°C will impact Sonora, Chihuahua, Jalisco, Morelos, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Puebla, Veracruz, Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo. In Baja California Sur, Coahuila, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Nayarit, Colima, and the State of Mexico, highs will fluctuate between 35 and 40°C.
Finally, Mexico City and Tlaxcala will see temperatures between 30 and 35°C. According to the SMN's 96-hour extended forecast, anticyclonic circulation in the middle levels of the atmosphere will maintain the heatwave across at least 26 states starting Tuesday, April 28.
