This Thursday, April 9, marks the premiere of “Stories of the Future,” a documentary series chronicling the journeys of six Chilean Paralympic athletes. The series follows Agustín, Patricio, Ignacio, María Jesús, Camila, and Rocío, tracing their progress from the 2025 Youth Parapan American Games through to their preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
Directed by Rolando Opazo, the production was supported by Bupa Chile and the Chilean Paralympic Committee (COPACHI). The project aims to showcase the daily lives of these athletes beyond the arena of competition.
Beyond the Competition
Series director Rolando Opazo noted that the documentary's focus is not on sporting results or podium finishes. Instead, the goal was to capture the human element and the hard work that takes place long before the games begin.
“Our interest wasn't in the competition itself, or the podium, or the excitement of the results, but rather in the story leading up to the event,” Opazo explained. The filmmaker noted that the filming process required building trust with the subjects to capture their true emotions.
The series features scenes of training sessions, rehabilitation processes, and family gatherings. According to Opazo, the intention is to bring visibility to stories that often remain unknown to the general public.
Meanwhile, Pamela Contador, Manager of Corporate Affairs, Sustainability, and Clients at Bupa Chile, highlighted the social value of the initiative. She stated that the company views Paralympic sport as a tool for building a more diverse and inclusive society.
“We see Paralympic sport as a driver for the development of young people who may love sports but often don't even know they exist,” added Contador.
The official premiere will take place at 6:00 PM at Cinépolis La Reina. Following the premiere, the series will be available to the public on YouTube and the Bupa website.
