Barcelona secured their 29th Spanish league title on Sunday, May 10, 2026, following a decisive 2-0 victory over Real Madrid at Camp Nou. The win marks back-to-back La Liga crowns for manager Hansi Flick’s side and officially confirms a second consecutive trophy-less season for their rivals.

Barcelona entered the match needing only to avoid defeat to seal the championship. With three games remaining in the season, the result moved the Catalans 14 points clear of second-placed Real Madrid. According to Al Jazeera, this marks only the second time in league history that the title has been decided directly by the outcome of a Clasico, a rarity not seen since 1932 when Madrid secured their first title following a draw with Barcelona.

The match was effectively decided in the first half, with Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres providing the goals. Rashford, who was deployed on the right wing by Flick to replace the injured teenage star Lamine Yamal, helped set the tone for a dominant performance. Despite the comfortable margin of victory, the hosts were coming off a disappointment in April, having been eliminated from the Champions League in the quarterfinals by Atletico Madrid.

Manager Hansi Flick oversaw the victory under difficult personal circumstances, having learned of his father’s passing shortly before kickoff. Despite the bereavement, the German coach remained on the touchline to guide his team to the title. "This title is more special for winning it at home against Madrid, now we have to enjoy it with the fans," Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong told Movistar following the final whistle.

Real Madrid arrived at Camp Nou in a state of internal volatility. The club had recently fined midfielder Fede Valverde and teammate Aurelien Tchouameni following a physical altercation at the training ground. The incident resulted in Valverde being ruled out of the match due to a head injury, while Tchouameni started in the lineup.

For Real Madrid, the loss serves as a grim conclusion to a campaign that has left the club facing significant questions regarding its future. Having previously achieved a league and European double under Carlo Ancelotti, the club has struggled to integrate high-profile signings, leading to a season of discontent. De Jong, reflecting on Barcelona's trajectory, noted that while the domestic title is a major achievement, the club remains focused on higher ambitions: "We have been the best team in Spain – of course we want to win the Champions League, that’s the objective. Next year we will have another opportunity."
