Uber has announced a comprehensive mobility and delivery strategy designed to support both locals and tourists during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. The company plans to roll out solutions ranging from specialized transportation to the management of food orders and essential supplies.
According to reports from xataka.com.mx, the strategy features the creation of 'Uber Zones.' These strategic pickup and drop-off points will be located at stadiums, fan fests, and high-traffic areas within host cities to prevent logistical chaos following matches.
A joint study with The Competitive Intelligence Unit (The CIU) highlights the platform's importance for the event. The report, titled "Urban Mobility Ahead of the 2026 World Cup: Challenges, Demand, and the Role of Digital Platforms in Mexico," indicates that seven out of ten users consider Uber an indispensable ally during the tournament.
The report also reveals that 51% of those surveyed would hesitate to attend stadium matches if the app were unavailable. To accommodate various traveler needs, Uber will offer the Uber XXL category for groups with large luggage, as well as the Uber Reserve feature for scheduling trips in advance.
In Mexico City, the service will expand through the integration of Uber Taxi via a partnership with MX Taxi. Regarding safety, the PIN Code system will be automatically active in all three host cities, supplemented by a Personal PIN feature to enhance user access.
Delivery Services and Supplies
Uber Eats will also play a key role in the operational rollout. The company has expanded its catalog following the arrival of OXXO in more than 70 cities across the country, integrating over three thousand products available for delivery.
Users will also be able to purchase Costco memberships directly through the app. During the tournament, the company will activate 'Flash Deals'—real-time promotions designed for peak activity periods during the games.
Félix Olmo, General Manager of Uber Mexico, stated that the company aims to integrate mobility and delivery solutions to ensure that city connectivity meets the standards of the world's largest sporting stage.
Meanwhile, Daniel Colunga, General Manager of Uber Eats in Latin America, noted that the proposal includes features such as Pickup and Group Orders. The plan is further bolstered by a partnership with OpenTable, allowing users to browse and book restaurant tables in real time through the same interface.
