The Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) launched a new digital platform this week to streamline credentialing services for professionals across Mexico. The initiative eliminates the need for in-person visits to the General Directorate of Professions (DGP), marking a major shift in the government’s administrative strategy.
Education Secretary Mario Delgado Carrillo announced that five specific services are now fully accessible online. These include the issuance of intern certificates, degree-in-progress certificates, and no-sanction records. Professionals can also manage the linkage of their CURP to their professional license and request duplicates through the portal.
Digital overhaul reduces wait times
Administrative efficiency is the primary driver behind the transition. According to the SEP, the new system reduces the required documentation by 70%. Furthermore, the government expects the turnaround time for these requests to drop from 90 days to a maximum of 15 business days.
Data from the ministry indicates a rising demand for these services. Requests for professional records grew from 2,869 in 2024 to 3,654 in 2025, forcing the agency to modernize its infrastructure to handle the increased volume effectively.
The platform was built in collaboration with the General Directorate of Information and Communication Technologies and the newly formed Digital Transformation Agency. Officials stated the system is designed to be secure and accessible for all users.
To access these services, applicants must use their 'Llave MX' digital identity and a valid 'e.firma.' Payments for the associated fees must be made via credit or debit card directly through the website. The SEP expects this move to remove intermediaries from the process, thereby reducing potential bottlenecks and improving the overall user experience.
