A driver in Louisiana was taken into custody Saturday after plowing a vehicle into a crowd of people celebrating Lao New Year, injuring at least 15 festival-goers. Local authorities confirmed the suspect now faces charges for impaired driving following the incident.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a chaotic environment. Video footage circulating on social media shows victims lying on the pavement and at least one individual trapped beneath the vehicle as bystanders rushed to help.

Investigation into the crash

Police have not yet released the identity of the driver. Investigators are currently processing the scene to determine the exact circumstances that led to the vehicle entering the pedestrian-only area.

Witnesses described a scene of celebration that turned into panic in a matter of seconds. The annual Lao New Year festivities, typically marked by music and cultural performances, were abruptly halted as paramedics began transporting the wounded to local hospitals.

Medical officials state that the 15 injured victims are receiving treatment for various trauma-related wounds. While some remain in critical condition, others are expected to recover from their injuries.

Law enforcement officials stated that the investigation remains active. Officers are currently reviewing witness statements and surveillance footage from the surrounding area to build the case against the driver.
