Toyota is looking to reclaim market share lost to the rising popularity of SUVs in Mexico with the launch of the 2026 Sienna. The Japanese automaker has introduced this model with a strategy centered on hybrid technology and increased interior space tailored for Mexican families.
According to reports from xataka.com.mx, the brand is currently seeing sales of approximately 600 units per month in the country. With this launch, Toyota aims to prove that the minivan segment still holds demand, provided the vehicles evolve to meet modern needs.
The new Sienna features the Hybrid Synergy Drive system, which pairs a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with electric components. This configuration produces a total of 244 horsepower and utilizes a planetary gear transmission that simulates six automatic speeds.
The vehicle offers four driving modes: ECO, NORMAL, SPORT, and EV. The electric mode allows for reduced fuel consumption in urban environments, while on the highway, the system automatically manages the transition between both power sources.
Premium technology and safety
The 2026 model's cabin accommodates eight passengers and features a length of 5.1 meters. The interior includes tri-zone independent climate control, USB ports, wireless charging, and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Top-tier trims include a 12-speaker JBL audio system, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a head-up display, and a 360-degree camera. Toyota describes this offering as a "new luxury," a concept aimed at balancing functionality with premium-level technology.
Regarding safety, the Sienna includes the Toyota Safety Sense package across all versions. This equipment features automatic pre-collision systems, lane departure warning, and lane tracing assist.
The model also boasts a comprehensive airbag deployment, including front, side, and curtain airbags, as well as a dedicated knee airbag for the driver. The brand's strategy is not to compete directly with the rugged image of SUVs, but rather to attract users who prioritize efficiency and space.
Prices for the 2026 Sienna in Mexico range between 997,600 and 1,191,800 pesos. The automaker's challenge will be to shift Mexican consumers' perception regarding the utility of minivans in the face of the popularity of other vehicle formats.
